The bulldog's historical roots are based in the entertainment industry in that they were entered in a form of arena combat called
bull-baiting. Just as it sounds the dogs were used in packs to take down a bull by latching on to it's face.
Thankfully this barbaric sport was outlawed long ago and the breed itself has underwent some breeding changes in the look and temperament.
The bulldog of the 21st century is an extremely family oriented dog. With emphasis on playing, showing off, pleasing their masters and just plain "lazing around", the bulldog continues to amaze those who take the time to notice the intelligence of this breed.
