Do You Know The Similarities Between Highland Park And Poplar Creek Courses?

Although Highland Park is a very old golf course compared to the very modern Poplar Creek, a recent restoration of the former by a leading architect has brought about more similarities to add to the already existing extraordinarily beautiful landscapes that the two have always enjoyed.

Highland Park is no doubt the oldest golf course in the state of Alabama having been established in 1903. It actually opened as the Country Club of Birmingham.

Still, in 1998 the course went through a vigorous restoration by well know architect Bob Cupp. The work of Mr Cupp had the desired effect of enhancing an already beautiful course that had stood the test of time. Highland Park still sparkles from that restoration today. The layout of the Highland Park golf course may seem rather short but is actually very competitive. One can even go as far as saying that it has the characteristics of a championship style golf course. It also makes good use of superb bent grass greens and the beautiful landscape and

view of downtown Birmingham.

Poplar Creek Golf course on the other hand is a popular golf course, especially for groups and organizations. This is a course consisting of beautiful, large undulating greens with rolling fairways lined by almost a thousand mature trees. The course also boasts of 5 rock edge lakes complete with two waterfalls and streams.

This golf course has a new 12,000 square foot clubhouse that includes a Pro shop, Restaurant and bar as well as banquet facilities that can comfortably accommodate 200 people in a special event or function. What enhances the whole experience is the fact that the clubhouse is built with an all glass façade that faces the golf course and provides an excellent and dramatic view of the course that includes the 18th fairway, green, lake, waterfall and stream.
